Recently Ramulas and I sat on my couch and talked about life and I rambled on about my 11-year-old starting middle school. He listened and quietly took in all that I had to say. That is the kind of soul he is, a listener, a caring and thoughtful person. Ramulus is strong and unapologetically determined to express himself authentically and without labels. Yes, he is a photographer and a cinematographer, however, those are extensions of his character, of his reason for being alive. This is clearly expressed in Mr. Burgess’ work. His art wakes in me something serene yet thought-provoking and freeing. Ramulas expresses universal truths from within his art. The signature on his emails quotes Angela Davis “We have to talk about liberating minds as well as liberating society.”
Ramulas Burgess is definitely one of those mythic figures traveling the world and finding new ways to express himself as a human evolving. He seems most comfortable from behind the lens.
His place in the world was definitely birthed for him and no other. The connection to his art is peaceful and without adornment, his photography ranges from abstract to political, the soft and the hard find balance and individuality. There is no fanfare here, simply great art that deserves an immense audience.
Thank you Ramulas for sharing some time with me and allowing me to share in your art and your presence!
