i am black angel — a poem

i dress in black

to match

the color of my skin

the skin

i live my life in

i am black angel

fractured but never broken

with wings on my back

i know that i can fly

i rise from beneath

these noble streets

paved in struggle

i am eager

to sit in the light

eager to dream of more than the fight for truth

like universes passing time

i write rhythms

i write rhymes

molding them into positive vibrations

attracting loving minds

AND

with these supple lips

i SHOUT about

one heart

one mind

because

underneath

we are

differences combined

i dress in black

to match

the color of my skin

the skin

i live my life in

i am black angel

fractured but never broken

with wings on my back

i know that i can fly

i rise from beneath

these noble streets

paved in struggle

i am eager

to sit in the light

eager to dream of more than the fight for truth

like universes passing time

adhering to nothing but simplicity

stripped down

into tranquility of mind

like circles and rings around

infinity

we

have the ability to attract loving minds

AND

with these supple lips

i SHOUT about

one heart

one mind

because

underneath

we are

differences combined

i am black angel

fractured but never broken

with wings on my back

I KNOW THAT I CAN FLY

I KNOW THAT I CAN FLY

I KNOW THAT I CAN FLY
